Charismatic Cottage

Situated in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts the residence is a modest three-bedroom cottage responding to the local vernacular, but establishing a style of its own.  The client has the goal and need to remain living on premise as long as possible during construction. The project was designed to be done in two phases of construction.

Working from the roof down the house will build its new character downward, with the first phase of the renovation focused on the second floor and exterior walls.  The second phase will focus on the 1st floor, entryway and kitchen.

The spaces on the second floor, the sun porch, and Master Bedroom are extruded from the new high pitched roof with exposed rafter tales. A simple board and batten line the 1st floor exterior walls and form a relationship second floor double height spaces breaking the main roof line.  Oiled Cedar shingles complete the exterior along with simple box casings  allowing the new character of the home to be subtle but inspired.
